Chief Medical Officer (CMO) – Midwest US

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing leadership in achieving excellence in advancing quality clinical outcomes, patient safety, compliance standards, utilization review, performance improvement and medical staff affairs for an acute-care hospital and affiliated clinics that are part of a larger health system.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will be an active member of the hospital executive leadership team and report directly to a dynamic hospital CEO with a clinical background who is focused on quality care, growth and creating a fun-spirited work-environment.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will collaborate to develop and execute strategic initiatives and programs across the region and foster excellent relationships with the medical staff by establishing strong physician collaboration and integration.  Successful candidates will have demonstrated hospital leadership, organizational and management skills with exceptional verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a style that conveys confidence, enthusiasm, and engenders trust in others.

The hospital and clinics are set in a mid-size Midwestern community that is safe, affordable and has good schools.  It is near a domestic airport, has numerous universities in the area and offers a variety of dining, shopping and entertainment experiences.

Position Requirements

  • Physician candidates with an active MD or DO license in good standing.
  • Prior acute-care hospital and/or Medical Group CMO/VPMA experience is necessary.
  • Minimum of 5 years in clinical practice and 5 years of hospital senior administrative experience overseeing quality, compliance, peer review and performance improvement, utilization review and medical staff affairs. 
  • MMM, MBA, MPH or MHA preferred.
